A Buddha temple with a beautiful location is located 4 km from ISBT, Dehradun, which is a favorite spot for tourists visiting Dehradun. It is also known as Mindrolling Monastery. In the year 1965, Kochen Rinpoche along with Tibetan, Chinese, Japanese and Ladakhi artists built it in Japanese architectural style. Today about 500 lamas live in it. The 103 feet high statue of Lord Buddha is a center of attraction for tourists.
On October 31, 1814, soldiers and officers of the British government attacked the Khalanga hill in Raipur area of ​​Dehradun. Only 600 Gorkha soldiers took charge of Khalanga, which also included 100 women and children. In front of the brave army of Veer Balbhadra Thapa, a British army of 3500 soldiers stood, who had the most modern weapons of that time. Whereas, the Gorkha soldiers had only their traditional weapons which included khukuri, sword and bow and arrow. Despite this, the brave Gorkhas defeated the British under the leadership of Veer Balbhadra Thapa. Seeing their bravery, the British themselves built a memorial in Khalanga.
Emperor Ashoka of the Maurya dynasty had installed only one huge stone inscription in North India, which is located in Kalsi, Dehradun, hence it is also called Kalsi stone inscription. It contains information about the policies and behavior of Emperor Ashoka. This stone inscription is written in Prakrit language and Brahmi script. If you want to go here, then it is a historical heritage in the form of Ashoka’s stone inscription in Kalsi block on the banks of Yamuna river on Chakrata road, about 50 km from Dehradun city, which was installed by Ashoka in Kalsi after the Kalinga war in 273 BC. Chinese traveler Hiuen Tsang had mentioned it in his travelogue.
British era geologist Sir George Everest made an important contribution to know various new aspects from the heights of the mighty Himalayas to deep trenches. He surveyed the Everest peaks while staying at George Everest House in Hathipaon, Mussoorie. This house and laboratory was built in the year 1832, which is now known as Sir George Everest House and Laboratory or Park House. The tourism department has developed it as a museum, where old machines and many equipment are kept. People come here after seeing the view here.
