Railways Fare Reduction: Affordable Travel for Passengers

Relief for Commuters

Lower Fares for Passenger Trains

Railway passengers rejoice as fares are slashed, offering more affordable travel options. Since the peak of the pandemic, passengers endured increased fares, even after its end. However, recent developments bring good news, especially for those traveling in passenger trains.

Fare Adjustments Post-COVID

Eliminating Additional Charges

During the COVID period, select passenger trains were designated as special trains, with fares hiked by Rs 30. This surcharge persisted even after the pandemic, affecting commuters in six passenger trains within the Malda division. But now, the Indian Railways has abolished these extra charges, providing relief to passengers.

Fare Disparities Addressed

Previously, passengers traveling from Jamalpur to Bhagalpur were charged Rs 35, whereas the return journey cost only Rs 15. Similar discrepancies existed for other routes, such as Jamalpur to Kiul and Jamalpur to Saharsa, where fares were higher than standard passenger train rates. With the removal of additional charges, travelers can now enjoy fair pricing across all routes.

Streamlining Operations

Details of Reduced Fares

The commercial department of Malda Railway Division disclosed that six pairs of special trains running through the Sahibganj Loop Line had their fares reduced. These include trains like Sahibganj-Jamalpur Passenger, Gaya-Rampurhat-Gaya Passenger, Jamalpur-Bhagalpur Passenger, Jamalpur-Kiul Passenger, Jamalpur-Gaya Passenger, and Jamalpur-Saharsa Passenger. Passengers can now avail themselves of these services at fares less than Rs 30.

 A Win for Passengers

With the removal of extra charges and fare adjustments, Indian Railways demonstrates its commitment to providing affordable and accessible transportation for all.
