The Hemkund Sahib Yatra for 2024 is all set to commence on May 25th and conclude on October 10th. This sacred pilgrimage, undertaken by devotees from various parts of the country, holds immense spiritual significance. Reports suggest that the dates for the yatra were finalized during a meeting between Narinder Jit Singh Bindra, Chairman of Gurdwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust, and Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi.

Preparations Amidst Snow

As of now, the entire region is blanketed in snow, with depths ranging from 5 to 8 feet. Approximately one month before the annual pilgrimage begins, army personnel will clear the snow-covered route, ensuring a safe passage for devotees.

Spiritual Importance

Highlighting the spiritual significance of the pilgrimage, Bindra emphasized its importance for devotees. The confirmation of dates allows interested citizens to plan their visits accordingly, encouraging them to make necessary arrangements for the journey.

Previous Years’ Attendance

Records indicate that in 2022, a remarkable 2.4 lakh pilgrims visited the revered Sikh shrine. In 2023, the number of devotees making the journey reached 1.7 lakh, reflecting the growing interest in this spiritual endeavor.

Trek Details

Devotees undertaking the pilgrimage are required to trek approximately 15 km from Govind Ghat to reach Hemkund Sahib, situated at an altitude of 15,000 feet. Due to challenging weather conditions, many prefer to halt at Gangharia during their journey.

By Air

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, approximately 320 km from the location. From there, one can hire a taxi or use other modes of transportation to reach Govind Ghat, the starting point of the trek.

By Train

Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest, around 273 km from Govind Ghat. From Rishikesh, one can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Govind Ghat.

By Road

Govind Ghat is well-connected by road. One can take a bus or hire a taxi from major cities like Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun to reach Govind Ghat, from where the trek to the holy shrine begins.

The actual trek starts from Govind Ghat, covering around 19 km to reach Hemkund Sahib. The journey offers picturesque landscapes and challenging terrains, making it a spiritually enriching experience.
