Mariah Carey, Cher, and More: Who Made the Cut? The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominations Revealed.

Many of the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees are first-timers, including Mariah Carey and Cher among others.

The Foundation for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled its roster of nominees for the current year, with ten newcomers. On a Saturday in the Pacific Standard Time zone, the Cleveland institution and hall of fame disclosed a catalog of fifteen performers eligible for enshrinement at this year’s event: Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Eric B. & Rakim, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Jane’s Addiction, Kool & the Gang, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis, Sinead O’Connor, Ozzy Osbourne, and Sade, as reported by People magazine.

“This notable roster of nominees mirrors the varied artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame venerates and celebrates,” remarked John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “Continuing in the authentic essence of Rock & Roll, these artists have crafted their own sounds that have left a mark on generations and influenced countless others who have followed in their footsteps.”

According to People, qualification for nomination necessitates that a performer must have released their debut commercial recording twenty-five or more years ago, or by the year 1999, as per the criteria established by the foundation.

Ten out of the fifteen nominees are making their debut appearance on the ballot, including Carey, Cher, Kravitz, Osbourne, Sade, and the deceased O’Connor. Thirteen performers were inducted into the Hall of Fame in the previous year, including the late George Michael, Chaka Khan, Missy Elliott, Kate Bush, and Sheryl Crow.

An international voting body comprising over 1,000 artists will participate in selecting the 2024 inductees. Voters will assess potential inductees based on various criteria such as their impact and influence on others, longevity, and excellence in style or skill. Towards the end of April, the foundation will conduct its induction ceremony in Cleveland, with further details to be disclosed.

For the second consecutive year, the 2024 ceremony will be streamed live on Disney+, aired as a special broadcast on ABC at a later date, and made available for streaming on Hulu the day after the telecast.
