‘Game of Thrones’ actor dies, ‘Kevan Lannister’ was battling cancer

British actor Ian Gelder, popular for playing the role of Kevan Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones’, has died. He was ill for a long time. It is being told that he was suffering from cancer and died due to complications of bile duct cancer. Ian has said goodbye to the world at the age of 74. Gelder’s partner Ben Daniels confirmed his death in an Instagram post on Tuesday. Daniels wrote, ‘With great sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces, I am leaving this post to announce the death of my beloved husband and life partner Ian Gelder.’

The actor’s partner wrote, ‘Ian was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December and passed away yesterday at 13.07. I had stopped all work to take care of him but none of us had any idea that all this would happen so soon. He was my entire strength and we have been partners for over 30 years. If we weren’t together we would be talking to each other every day. He was the kindest, most generous, enthusiastic and loving human being.’

Referring to the picture posted, she further said, ‘This picture was taken at Christmas time when I brought him out of the hospital and even though he went through the worst three weeks, you can still do this. See his happiness and love shining through. Rest easy my dear Chiani.’

Tributes started pouring in and condolences were expressed from fellow actors and industry colleagues. Many shared memories of Gelder. Matt Lanter offered prayers for Daniels, while Richard E Grant called Gelder’s departure a loss. Lan Gelder’s talent and warmth made him a favorite of audiences around the world, especially for his portrayal of Kevan Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones’. He has also appeared in a number of TV series including ‘Doctor Hoon’, ‘Snatch’, ‘Fifteen-Love’, ‘Casualty’, ‘Edward the King’, ‘I Thought You’d Be Gone’ and ‘His Dark Materials’, among many other projects.
