The Bittersweet End

A Sudden Closure

Josiah Citrin’s second Charcoal location in West Hollywood came to an abrupt close on Saturday, February 17, less than a year after its opening. Citrin shared with Eater the unfortunate news, citing challenges in the business landscape as the primary reason for the permanent suspension of service.

Citrin’s Statement

In his statement, Citrin expressed disappointment over the necessity of the decision, attributing it to delays and significant fluctuations in the cost of doing business, particularly in West Hollywood. Despite efforts to navigate these challenges, the closure of Charcoal Sunset became inevitable.

The Legacy of Charcoal Sunset

A Promising Start

The West Hollywood establishment debuted in July 2023 along the iconic Sunset Strip, nestled among renowned venues like the Whiskey a Go Go and Rainbow Bar & Grill. Boasting a seating capacity of 320, the restaurant garnered attention for its exquisite surf-and-turf offerings, featuring delicacies such as Angus porterhouse, aged duck, and grilled loup de mer.

Moving Forward

While the closure undoubtedly leaves a void in the West Hollywood dining scene, loyal patrons of Charcoal can still savor Citrin’s culinary creations at the Venice location.
