New Delhi: The controversy over the absence of brothers Luv and Kush at Sonakshi Sinha’s wedding has not even subsided and people are calling Shatrughan Sinha’s daughter’s marriage to Zaheer Iqbal a love jihad. A Hindu organization in Bihar expressed displeasure by printing posters and said that if Shatrughan Sinha does not reconsider the marriage, he should change the name of his house ‘Ramayan’ and sons Luv-Kush. Shatrughan Sinha has come out in defense of his daughter Sonakshi Sinha and her marriage amid the protest.
In Shatrughan Sinha’s hometown Patna, Hindu Shiv Vahini Sena took out a protest march and called the inter-religion marriage ‘love jihad’ and warned Sonakshi Sinha to never enter Bihar. Shatrughan Sinha reacted strongly to the protest and said that his daughter has not done anything illegal. He urged everyone not to spread hatred.
Shatrughan Sinha said, ‘Anand Bakshi sahab has said about such professional opponents – Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. I want to add to this – if the people who say are useless, worthless, then saying itself becomes work. My daughter has not done anything illegal or unconstitutional.
Shatrughan Sinha further said, ‘Marriage is a very personal decision between two people. No one has the right to comment on it or disturb it. I want to tell all the opponents to go and live their lives.’ Do something useful in your life and say nothing.
Shatrughan had last commented on the civil marriage of Zaheer Iqbal-Sonakshi Sinha. According to a report by News18 English, when he was asked how he was feeling on his daughter’s wedding day, he said, ‘Is this even something to ask? Every father waits for this moment when his daughter moves forward with the groom of her choice. My daughter is the happiest with Zaheer. May their union remain intact.’
Sonakshi-Zaheer tied the knot on June 23, after which the couple organized a wedding reception for close friends and relatives. It is worth noting that Zaheer Iqbal’s father Iqbal Ratansi had already made it clear that Sonakshi will not change her religion after marriage. He had said that their marriage is a meeting of hearts, it has nothing to do with religion.
